The Schürch Family Association of North America welcomes you to this site and hope that you will enjoy the visit. Please feel free to invite family and friends to visit us as well. Research inquiries can be directed to any of our Historians or Association Executive.
Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. This site is an attempt to record what our Association has learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help our family stay connected even though we live far apart.
Our North American history starts in the late 1600's. Many of our Schürch family came from Sumiswald, Switzerland and other regions within Switzerland. Our documentation also shows family from the neighbouring areas around Switzerland such as the Palatinate region of Germany and Alsace area in France.
Through research we have been able to trace the migration route from Switzerland to Holland and England where these families took the hazardous journeys by sea to the new world. Once in North America they settled primarily in the State of Pennsylvania and later moved on to other areas througout the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico. Some even venturing to South America.
So, if you have heard of Switzerland German Mennonites or Pennsylvania Deutch Mennonites, you would probably have found a member of the Schürch family in these groups. You can find out more about our heritage by contacting any of our Historians.
On this page we have provided a little information about who we are and what inspired us to do this research. Most of this information was obtained from talking to living relatives and from researching public records. In the course of doing this research, we have discovered that we have many more relatives than we ever thought possible!
This is a work in progress, so please contact us if you have any information that might help round out the picture.
